How To Find Your Perfect Hairstylist

Finding a hairstylist is like entering a dating pool with endless options. If only there was an app that allowed us to swipe right to end up with our perfect hairstylist match. Unfortunately that does not exist, but luckily for you I have some tips on how to find the perfect hair stylist for you!

Google and social media is your best friend. Do your research. We are lucky to live in a world where everything is right at our fingertips. You can search for hundred of hairstylists in just seconds. However it is important to do extensive and thorough research

when trying to find your new stylist.

  1. Is the stylist in the area you prefer? Location is key and can make or break whether a stylist is right for you. Location does not only include a physical location on a map but it also includes the type of salon. Is the salon a home salon? Full service? Suites? It’s important to understand what type of salon your stylist resides at before making an appointment. Different salon types offer different vibes and you should choose one you would thrive in most.

  2. Do they specialize in the hair you are trying to achieve? Hairstylists specialize in a variety of techniques and services. If you have blonde hair or are looking to go blonde, a blonde specialist is what you are looking for. Are you interested in extensions? Not all hairstylists offer extensions and some offer different technique types. A hairstylists social media is a great way to understand what they enjoy working with and the different services that they offer.

  3. Does the vibe of the salon/hairstylist match yours? Have you ever looked at a salon and thought.. that’s not for me? Or have you come across a hairstylist on instagram and instantly thought… her and I would be best friends? Your relationship with your hairstylist is like no other. We are your therapist, hair magician, and friend all in one. It is important that we get along, vibe together, and maintain a great working relationship all in one.

  4. Budget. Is the hairstylist within your budget? Hairstylists are constantly learning new techniques, attending classes, and honing in on their craft. Their prices reflect that. Having a chat with your hairstylist about your hair goals, maintenance plans, and appointment schedules can help your hairstylist give you a better idea of what services will cost and ultimately help decide if they are within your budget or not.

  5. Have a consultation! Consultations are key to finding a new hairstylist. This is where both you and the hairstylist will meet for the first time and decide whether you are a good fit for each other. At the consultation is where you can ask ALL the questions. Don’t hold back! Your money. Your hair. Make sure you feel comfortable.

  6. Trust your gut. Finding a new stylist isn’t just about their talent and education. It’s about how the two of you vibe together, how you communicate. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking up, or feel like your stylist isn’t hearing your feedback, you’re likely not going to be happy with the final result. It’s important to follow that gut feeling when choosing a new stylist.
