How to Keep Your Blonde Hair Blonde and Beautiful

Having blonde hair is like a having super power. Bright beautiful locks that shines in the sun. But when you're a blonde, the struggle can be real. It can be difficult to keep it the blonde color bright and true to tone. You may notice that your blonde starts to look a bit different in the weeks following your hair appointment. You may be diligent in your hair routine but the dullness and brass tones still come creeping in. Here are some tips to keep your blonde hair beautiful and as though you just stepped out of the salon!

1. Wash your hair less. After bleaching your hair, a toner is often applied. Toners generally only last 4-6 weeks. The more you wash your hair the more you are washing your toner out, often revealing the blonde tones you do not want in your hair. Another tip is to rinse your hair in cool water. Hot water strips color. Cool water will help preserve your color longer.

2. Use shampoo’s designed to keep your hair bright! Color safe shampoos are a must. Anti fading formulas help keep your hair color fresher for longer! It also helps to incorporate a purple shampoo or conditioner into your hair routine once or twice a week. The purple shampoo helps to tone those brassy colors and keeps your hair looking beautiful and bright before your next appointment!

3. Keep your self tanner, bronzer, and foundation off of your hair! Have you ever noticed that your blonde hair along your hairline has gradually become orange or dare I say… the shade of the self tanner you are using once a week? It’s important to keep those products away from your hairline and off of your hair! This can cause staining and can be difficult to reverse. Use a sponge or brush to accurately apply your self tanner when working in these areas.

4. Use a heat protectant! I may sound like a broken record here but this is especially important if you have blonde hair. Blonde hair is easily susceptible to damage. It is important to use a heat protectant each and every time you heat style your hair.

5. Regular color maintenance appointments. Regardless of how well you take care of your blonde hair and regardless of how well you stick to a hair routine.. eventually you will need a touch up and a retone. This is normal and crucial for blonde hair! Every 6-8 weeks is what I recommend to keep your blonde hair healthy and bright!
